Throughout my life, I have always been a collector, holding on to items from all stages of my life which evoke a sense of nostalgia and sentimentality. As our world is constantly changing the notion of collecting has become more alluring. It offers a return to simpler times.
Each collection reflects a different aspect of my life, transforming personal memories into real life forms. By preserving these moments through ceramics, I invite viewers to explore the universal themes of memory, time, and the sentimental value of objects, the cherished item. Through the slip casting process I have been able to explore the capabilities of slip as a ceramic medium and experiment with several different techniques of mold making.
As a slip caster I am inspired by the interplay of texture and slip. I am drawn to the slip casting process as it has the ability to replicate a form or pattern, and this is particularly relevant in my fabric collection. In this collection I have focused on the innovative use of fabric in mold making to create unique slip cast pieces. This technique has enabled me to explore the fluidity and versatility of clay, capturing the delicate imprints and intricate patterns of the fabrics. I have created a palette of unique glazes and decorating techniques to emphasis these detailed textures.
In a world that often feels fast-paced and transient, this body of work offers a moment of pause and reflection. It is an invitation to remember, to cherish, and to find beauty in the small, seemingly insignificant objects that once held a universe of meaning. Through these pieces, I hope to remind others of the power of small, sentimental things in shaping our personal histories.
My collection is inspired by the distinctive forms and textures of antique bottles from my personal collection. I carefully developed glazes that enhance the subtle details and contours of each piece, highlighting the craftsmanship and history embedded in these timeless objects.
This collection draws inspiration from the intricate designs of bundt molds, which have been reimagined as ceramic wall hangings. Each piece, with its own unique glaze, highlights the distinctive patterns and textures of the molds, emphasising the fine details— from the delicate ridges to the complex curves.
This series of small wall tapestries features ceramic buttons made from molds of my personal collection.
The variety of coloured slips used highlight the detailed button designs, while the embroidered backgrounds add texture and contrast, turning these everyday objects into decorative art.
This collection is a personal interpretation of the traditional Japanese Kokeshi Dolls, inspired by my childhood dolls. I’ve reimagined their simplicity and charm through my own creative lens, blending nostalgic memories with a contemporary take on their form and design.
This collection reflects my love of fabric. Using a unique slip casting technique, I capture their textures and patterns and transform them into ceramic vessels. The result is a perfect balance of soft textile impressions and the solidity of porcelain, offering a tactile experience that celebrates both mediums.
